You know that cute post about the cute little kitties we have? Yea, well, I went to bed last night and we had two kitties in the garage. However this morning my niece knocked on our bedroom door with a little more fervency than anticipated for 7 a.m. APPARENTLY that cute and not so lovey black/orange/white kitty ~ also known as "calico", had 6 kittens in the night. She had them in the garage last night while we slept away. She was moved to the "birthing suite" room ~ our bathroom off of the kitchen this morning.
We are just giddy! Well, those of us under 11 are. I mean, we love our two kitties but we have no desire to be responsible for the entire cat population in the Americas!
OK, before you sip the hateraid and accuse me of being an irresponsible pet owner, you have to know that I had called my vet for an appointment to get the girls fixed. The very sweet receptionist/giver of dates for us, told me that they would get me in the office in................. JUNE. June. Because apparently this was their busy time. Who knew vets had "busy times"? I didn't.
So there was some hanky panky going on that we were unaware of. I have to say, I'm not what you'd call "ignorant". I mean, I have had four children myself and well, at some point you do look like you are going to have a new baby. In our case it was SIX new babies. I was a bit suspicious about her burgeoning belly about a week ago. She was really just normal looking and then WHAM! she just popped out. You know me though, ostrich syndrome ~ head in the sand. I didn't even tell the kids what I suspected.
A friend left a comment in a previous post about good reasons to not get cats. Well, I saw that individual and I told him that apparently we are running a brothel up here!
We did allow our labs to have three litters of puppies with the express intent of selling AKC dogs. That went very well and all the litters had sold in one to two weeks. After Duchess had the last litter, which involved a cesarean section FOR A DOG!!!, we had her fixed. No more puppies for her. Three litters was enough. It was fun having puppies around and sending them off to wonderful homes. OK, there were about two couples that I cringed with when they came to get the puppy. But overall it was a wonderful experience.
However, knowing that cats reproduce like mice or rabbits, my intent was to get them fixed before it became a zoo and we made national headlines! I don't know if you know this about me, but one of the things I like about blogging is that I'm behind a screen... What kind of bodily reaction would I have if the news showed up with the Kitty SWAT team and BOOM! There we are on the news. Seriously, just the anticipation of getting up to talk in front of people, people that I know, makes me turn a very violent shade of red! No thank you!
I guess the good news is that by the time June rolls around for the girls to go and get fixed, the kittens will be ready for new homes. Or I'll be posting for a new home for me because Rodger's favorite animal is not kitties!
