Puppy Play

I am usually awake around 6 am.  That does not mean I'm actually functioning, or even out of bed.  I mean, ideally it would be great to pop up like a daisy right out of that bed, shoot downstairs and make that coffee with a Happy Working Song on my lips, but let's not over do it!

There are those that live on this property that seem to wake up with that certain zip to their step.  And it ain't the humans here!

Take this fellow for example.  Five in the morning.  Wrap your brains around that one.

The ones that need to be highlighted today are these three.

These three wake up in the morning and it is like they were on coffee with a five hour energy drink tossed in for good measure.  Rodger will go out to the barn in the morning when he gets on his shoes for his 200 foot commute to work.  On his way out to his office he gets the dogs out of their kennel and feeds them breakfast.  If you have a Labrador you know what this is like.  Labs DO NOT belong on those cute little kitty commercials where they are serving up Fancy Feast in a crystal dish.  Oh no.  Labs are more like ravenous wolves that haven't eaten in three months and if you don't get out of the way they could take your leg off with the ferocity at which they attack their food.  I have watched them eat so fast that they are literally inhaling their food and all of a sudden, they are choking and gagging, puking up what they have eaten.  It's just real nice...

So after they eat a bit, they run off on the property to go and use the loo.  Then they run back to the food dish looking for any chicken or duck along the way that might possibly have taken a step to close to the sacred food.

Then the property protection kicks in.  Any and all trees must be sniffed for intruders.  Moles and mice are frequent play toys for the sweet little puppies.  Today I found Brutus hiding under the chicken coop guarding his new "toy".  It was a pesky ground hog.  I have no clue how they managed to get a ground hog, other than I did notice the dogs digging a hole to China last week.  Glad they didn't pull out a Chinese person instead.  That would have been a bit of a shocker.

I mossied on outside to toss the frisbee with the poochies.  They love to chase a ball or stick and bring it back, so why not a frisbee.

Willow has apparently not learned how to play nicely on the playground.  She was a frisbee hog.
"And they're off!"  Willow was shooting through the yard and taunting and teasing the other two.  "Nah nah nah boo boo!  I have the frisbee!  You. Don't."  She could possibly be compared to the annoying little sibling that likes to show you what they have.  That you don't have.  Braggart.

Well, Duchess will only take so much.  Then she will throw out the "I'm the boss" card.  It's equivalent to the yellow card in soccer.

Of course Brutus is not about to be out done.  He pretty much thinks Willow is a punk.  She is always trying to take his breakfast.  She tries to bite his legs when he walks away from her in her attempts to get him to play.  She grabs the loose skin by his mouth and tries to run away with it...  She is a bit of a punk and if the dogs could talk I'm pretty sure they would set up a picket line and have a barrel with a fire in it and they would heckle us for bringing her home.  They would demand a raise.  Or at least a few more steak bones.

OH Yea!  Come and take it now, little tater tot punk, bratty dog!

There is this one little issue with Willow though.  She thinks she is the Alpha dog.  She hasn't figured out that there is a pecking order and she is not on the top of that order.  That dog is the most persistent dog I think I've ever owned.  Brutus isn't afraid to pull out his version of a yellow card either.  That usually involves a very hearty growl and sometimes a bit of a nip.  She'll back off.  Until the next time...

Those dogs were running around this morning after that frisbee like they hadn't had a run in a year either.  It was full throttle all the way!  It seems like only yesterday that it was more like this:

The baby is growing up...

Have a very happy week!  It's going to be hot and sunny here.
