Because it comes in threes...

So apparently there is a virus that is catchy and people in our house are dropping like flies!  It is the "let's break a bone to keep the economy going" virus.

This past Saturday we went down to Apple Valley, courtesy of our dear friends and we were going to go tubing because they got this new snazzy speed boat.  Well, lately when we are hanging out with these friends, our kids are getting maimed and wounded while their kids are scratch free!  OK, I jest.  Chloe tossed Zach off the trampoline ~ which had nothing to do with our friends or their kids.  And really, who's counting when their son was driving the boat that tossed Sophie off the tube...  I digress though, she failed to let go of the tube when she fell off.  That caused her to be drug along like a fishing lure that is trolling.  So maybe it is my kids that have the issue?

Anyway, Sophie and all the kids were having a great time tubing and after the second crash off of the tube, Sophie came up looking at her pretty finger.  It was now at an obtuse angle at one of her knuckles.  Nice.

She hadn't noticed it before probably because she was hanging on for dear life and you know how your hands get cold or numb after a while in those types of situations.  She looked down and there it was in all of its glory ~ crooked.

She hopped in the boat and when they all got back there is always that town crier that comes screaming when someone is maimed.  Like they have to be the first there!  I can't remember who the town crier was this time (probably mine), but next thing you know there are ten kids all yelling that Sophie broke her finger, OH MY GOODNESS SHE BROKE HER FINGER!!!  So me, in my classic Ostrich move, I denied it.  No, she can't have broken her finger.  She's just tubing.  Apparently Venus was in its fifth moon and indeed, she did have an oddly shaped finger.

We opted out of an ER visit since we had just been there with Zach.  It costs $500 just to walk through the doors, then they start charging you for the microorganisms you are breathing.  Only to tell you to go make an appointment with the Orthopedic fella's on Monday morning.  "Oh no, ma'am.  We don't fix bones here.  That isn't our specialty.  We wrap them and keep them snug while you wait for the Orthopedic doctor to do that."

So we saved ourselves a few hundred dollars.  I call that being wise with our riches that are about to sprout wings and fly away (see Proverbs 23:5).

After a call to the Orthopedic office we found out that because we didn't go to the ER that we would have to schedule a visit into the ortho office.  That could take up to two weeks to get in.  Fortunately the receptionist was a little astute and noticed that Sophie probably wasn't going to benefit from waiting that long.  She really was gracious and wanted to help but apparently they don't know what to do with people that don't go to the ER.  They have spots throughout the day where people can come in because they are ER patients, therefore they are "emergency" visits.

She talked to her supervisor and they let us come in today.

And wow.  Did Sophie do a number on her finger.  This is from the kid that is never sick, doesn't take medicine for anything, never had surgery or tonsils out, no broken bones.  Nothing.  And while tubing she goes and breaks her knuckle bone ~ to the point of almost crushing it.  The funny thing is that her finger is presenting itself as being worse than what the xray shows.  The doctor thinks that there might be a bit more damage than what the xray is showing.

So here it is.  Twice the size as normal, a bit off center, and quite bruised and ugly!

More than likely she is going in on Thursday to have a closed manipulation with the potential for surgery to put pins in her finger/knuckle area.  We will get a call tomorrow for confirmation of this.

So we are down two and now we need one more of something.  However, I am very glad to share with someone else to fulfill that number three slot.  I'm thinking I'm done!

We'll keep you posted.

OH, and today is Sophies birthday!  Fantastic way to spend it ~ in a doctor's office finding out you need surgery!

Hoping to share that number three spot,
Tammy
