I have a streak of sarcasm that flows through me. I really do try to not offend others. Most of the time it works and it ends up just being funny. I think.
Last night here is a conversation that I had with the cashier at TJ MAXX, whose name tag said "Jacob":
Jacob: Did you find everything ok?
Me: Yes, thank you.
Jacob: Would you like to donate a dollar to "the children".
(I was so busy trying to think of a response that I have no clue what kind of "children" fund I was donating to...)
Me: (Imagine a very serious look on my face.) No. I don't like children.
Jacob: Ok, Thank you. (he was doing a very good job at this point to not make eye contact with me...)
But. If you could have seen the look on his face. To which I promptly told him I was totally joking, but no thank you I don't want to donate. We are totally into kids. In fact, we have four of our own. We would have had more but since they were the size of a small island when they were born and I had to have c-sections with all four, that is where we stopped. We really like kids. Seriously. Ask around.
Meanwhile Sophie and I are almost doubled over with silent laughter. If anyone hears a story from a guy at TJ MAXX that sounds like this story, don't believe it.
I probably should get out more often.
Mischief maker on the loose,
Tammy
