I think it was about 8-10 years ago when we were looking at cameras and Rodger asked me if I wanted a digital camera. OH the fool I was. I told him in no uncertain terms that I wanted a nice film camera because if we get a digital camera then we would NEVER get our pictures developed. That is my whole story and I am so sticking with it! Rodger was the wise sage of the time. He was insisting that I would love a digital camera. That digital is the "new black"! They are so awesome and your picture taking is going to go to a whole new level. Blah. Blah. Blah.
Whatever. Just get the nice 35mm camera and we'll be friends. So he humored me and bought the Nikon n65. A lovely film camera that now gathers dust like granny's macrame owl hanging. I haven't used it for a. very. long. time. Rodger now has "I told you so" rights.
When my brain started to come out of the 1980's and into the digital age, it hasn't looked back! Do you think I can get Mr. Reel on Facebook? No. Does he even care about digital stuff? Not so much. Who likes the digital world? Moi! Hence the Nook for him (which he loves, so does that cancel out the "I told you so" rights?). I knew he would like it a lot.
We have had several point and shoot digital cameras. All have been Nikon's. I just have a thing for Nikon. Nikon does not know me and they certainly did not pay me to write this up. I know others have a love for other brands, but we are drawn to that brand.
So for Christmas we got the Nikon D80 and it is the BOMB! I am hard pressed to be able to get my hands on it. Sophie is always flitting around with that camera in her hands, shooting pictures of everything under the sun. There was a bit of motivation for Rodger to get it though. He really needed a good camera for his job. He is often in situations where he needs to get close up shots of buildings and deteriorating areas and little point and shoots just don't cut the proverbial mustard.
So we have been thoroughly enjoying the camera. Oh, there are better cameras, but the quality of picture from this kind of camera is leaps and bounds better than any smaller camera you could have. Of course I still have my point and shoot because it isn't always conducive to tote around a SLR camera. They are a bit bulky.
Of course it is able to produce better pictures for Rodger's work, but we do have four kids and they are all in some sort of activity. I hated the thought of missing those great pictures because there is a lag time between shots with the point and shoot. I have a stack of blurry, out of focus, bizarre shots that I'll never be able to use. The "oh, I almost got that shot" kind of picture. Of course that now means I need to become one with my camera and use it to its potential.
Sophie is becoming fluent in Nikon camera use too. She is going to start up a photography blog this week. She is not one for many words, but a picture is worth a thousand words, so she is going for the gold!
Oh, and I highly recommend you go to Pioneer Woman's website and visit her photography section. She often has camera contests where she will give a Nikon d90 away (among other things on her website). Her web address is www.pioneerwoman.com I have been going to her site for the last six years. The unfortunate thing is that I have never won a contest... I would love to get to the point of being able to do contests like she does. Someday.

The picture quality truly is phenomenal! Do you use any sort of picture enhancing - like Photoshop?
