WARNING. IF YOU ARE SPORTING SOME ADULT ONSET A.D.D., STEP AWAY NOW!! LONGER POST
(this was for you, Rocco;))
Well, we are fixin' to go down the dusty trail of infancy and toddlerhood again... NO!! We are not having a baby. Sort of. The new puppy is coming tomorrow. Tomorrow my life is ending for another two years - or more. My friend Anissa called me on her dog Yogi's birthday to tell me that they had a talk with him about growing up, but apparently it didn't work. So we might be stuck with some serious destructive forces of nature for another two or more years...
I realize that probably some of you are thinking thoughts like, "WHY??" Or perhaps you feel no pain for us at all. I probably wouldn't if it were you! Just sayin'.
You would think that perhaps we would have learned our lesson with our first lab that got us into this mess - Duke. The one that ate Sophies poop while she was potty training and she left a surprise in the yard (by the way, that was like, 13.5 years ago, not recently...). Nope.
You might think that we would have learned from the sweet sweet dog we call Duchess. The one we volunteered to take when a certain someone couldn't bear to see her living in her wretched state of affairs at her home. Neglected and left to a treeless yard. Not a soul cared that she was there - not even her owners. We didn't know we were volunteering to bring satan into our home... Again, just sayin'. This one should have taught us our lesson for sure. She chewed off five different corners of the house and barn siding in HOT PURSUIT of some poor, hapless critter. Apparently the critters were between the siding and the frame.
She got into the house two summers ago (Duchess and Brutus are outside dogs) and wreaked havoc in our home. She and Brutus were never house broken. Yea. Garbage was everywhere, pee on the floor, and OH MY STARS SHE KILLED THE BUNNY!!!! This was not just any bunny. This was Chloe's bunny. You have never seen such wailing from a little tater tot. Chloe threw her body to the floor and wept like her soul had been ripped from her body. I actually had a tear. Then Duchess and Brutus got the two new bunnies. Then they killed the two guinea pigs... Then I had a mental breakdown, curled into fetal position and sucked my thumb. Rodger had to put the underground fence around the perimeter of the house so the dogs couldn't get in again.
Before all of the above death and destruction occured we decided to get one more puppy because Duke was getting old and showing his age. Duchess was still young and we really didn't want her to be alone outside by herself. She needed a cohort in crime. So Brutus came to live with us. And we were done. I have sworn a thousand times we were done with having puppies. Until I got the email. The email from a family that had wanted one of our puppies from Duchess and Brutus. They had a new litter coming.
I have two words for those of you wondering what kind of cheap drugs I'm on: Sucker. Chloe.
Chloe did not get a sucker. Rather, I am a sucker for her beggings in the critter department. Specifying critters lest you believe she can beg and get anything she wants. Oh, and critters might be a weakness of mine too.
Hence the chickens, ducks and kitties, hermit crabs and water frogs... It is really crazy, honestly. Who inflicts themselves with this kind of pain and agony?? Apparently we do. And we really shouldn't leave Rodger out of this because he loves the dogs too.
So we are leaving tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. to travel to the Toledo area to pick up our newest family member! She is sooo cute - we have seen pictures of her on the blog they have of the puppies.
We'll have pictures up tomorrow on here. And the jury is still out on a name for her. No great brainwaves yet from anyone! There was a poll goin on my facebook page so if you didn't put a name in there, feel free to do so here! We're still open to suggestions!
If any of you are interested in a puppy, here is the website. I think they still have a few puppies left:
