Except those couple of times she decided to sneak off and cut a chunk out of her hair without telling anyone. Aside from the obvious piece that was missing out of her hair (and man, did it ever look... goofy. do NOT tell her I said this!), I figured this out when I walked into my bathroom area and there were very long strands of hair lying on the counter area. I mean, really? Couldn't you have at least cleaned it up and it might not have been noticed for a while?!
Her hair has been through various lengths of stringiness. Sometimes my father would refer to her as an orphan child because she looked a little stringy. It simply is the cross a pre-ballerina must bear. I never really thought it looked that bad. Then I stumbled upon some vintage pictures of my girl.
WOW! We both have had a few good chuckles, but my favorite is when I get blamed for letting her keep a certain hair style. Or perhaps a certain article of clothing that she wore for several years running... Bring it right back around to me. That's what I like. Because surely her psyche is going to be all messed up from here on out and her wedding day will be ruined because those pictures we will show to the entire world that is going to show up at her wedding? Yep, those are going to scar everyone within an inch of their lives. Haunted forever by a young, stringy headed, pre-ballerina. Nevermind that I begged and pleaded as if my own life was on the line, for her to PLEASE WEAR SOMETHING ELSE! PLEASE, LET'S DO SOMETHING WITH THAT HAIR!!!! Free counseling for all!
Waiting at Steak and Shake for our food to come. Eventually we all had to be resuscitated from low blood sugar, but here, here is just the beginning, and fun was rampant. Those are also not Hannibal Lecter type teeth/apparatuses. Nope. That is the orthodontia from the orthodontist that we LOVED. I mean, if you have to pay out the wazoo, you might as well LOVE giving to the guy that is doing the work! Note the "stringy, life ruining hair" that we let her keep on her head.
You see, ballet has owned us in a few different ways. First of all, we haven't been able to have short hair. Not too much of a sacrifice, but after a while, there are only so many things you can do with your long hair and it gets BORRRIIING. Secondly, it has owned us with the time commitment. Mostly, we haven't minded because it didn't invade our lives too often.
So when Sophie made the decision this past May to step away from ballet, the very first thing she wanted to do was chop her hair off!
Now, we have several friends and family members that are partial to longer hair and I believe when we said those fear inciting words, "CHOP HAIR OFF", there was a collective shudder that went off. This was possibly a 23-19 (think Monsters Inc.), or a def-con 5. Whatever it was, I received texts and facebook inquiries about how short were we going to go. I mean, is this going to be an all out army kind of cut? Just an inch off??? OH. THE. PAIN. Me? I was so excited for Sophie because I know she has waited for so long for this.
So I made an appointment at a Charles Penzone Grand Spa. This was a one time deal. I don't generally pay big bucks for this kind of stuff, but this was a very special day! I had also checked out the pricing and it was very comparable to most reputable salons here in out town. So I said lets do it! BOOM! We are going! Oh, and I'm always up for a trip to Columbus because it is so much fun!
Before we left, I snapped a few last minute pictures of the pre-short hair. Here is one of them.
This is outside of Charles Penzone Grand Salon
And this is the grand finale!
So this is the finished product, and she loves it! The bonus: We saved countless lives from going into cardiac arrest because it isn't really THAT short! Those that were a bit hesitant on what kind of cut she was going to get all said it looked great and they gave the double thumbs up!
Now I have to deal with the fact that she no longer looks like a... little girl anymore.
You'll probably find me weeping in a corner, sucking my thumb and rocking back and forth!
Have a great week!
Tammy
